Here is a list of my main studio set up:
Main Computer:
Scan custom Pentium i7 QUAD Core Overclocked with liquid cooling system and 2.6 TB of internal Storage.
Plenty of power and relatively cheap so it's always an option to upgrade every 2 years without fretting over having forked out for a Mac! It's not as beautiful but I bought it to write music with not to sit and look at!
Main software:
I originally used Notator on an Atari, Notator then became Logic (still on an Atari) and then I moved to Logic on a Mac. After over 10 years of working on Logic I found myself stuck in a rut and creatively bored so instead of upgrading my Mac I went the PC route and moved to Ableton and I haven't looked back! You can get as creative as you can imagine, customizing your own Live Sets for your style of writing, jamming, playing live or DJing. The Ableton plugins and instrument racks that are included are all of exceptional quality, useful, mad, creative and abundant! I have just added the new Novation Launchpad to my set up, mainly for live use but also for the initial stages of getting ideas down in the studio... good fun in the dark on acid too lol! (Obviously that is pure speculation and I do not recommend the use f acid, in the dark when operating such equipment). To complete my totally mobile studio I use a pair of Alesis M1 USB monitors which are self powered and have audio inputs so you don't need an amp or separate sound card. They are very acurate too... check out all the tunes at www.myspace.com/adamlacroixmusic which were all written and mixed using this set up.
Other software:
Omnisphere, Ohmicide Multiband Distortion, Izotope Ozone, PSP Vintage Warmer, BBE Sonic Maximizer, Rob Papen Predator.
